How to Measure a Company\u2019s Real Impact<\/a><\/p>\n

In recent years, most major international airlines have reported healthy profitability. But our calculations show this to be a mirage. In the case of Lufthansa and American Airlines, for example, accounting for their environmental costs of $2.3 and $4.8 billion respectively would make both companies unprofitable.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u7a7a\u6e2f\u4f1a\u793e\u306e\u30ea\u30a2\u30eb\u306a\u53ce\u76ca\u6027\u306f\u3001\u74b0\u5883\u95a2\u9023\u306e\u30b3\u30b9\u30c8\u3092\u8003\u616e\u3059\u3079\u304d\u3067\u306f\u306a\u3044\u304b\u3068\u3044\u3046\u4e3b\u5f35\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

To date, there has been no way for companies to account for their benefits and costs to society and the environment. We have been working to change that.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The era of impact transparency has begun, and it is moving the goal posts for businesses and investors. Technology and Big Data have combined with longstanding efforts by many individuals and organizations to make the measurement and valuation of corporate impact a reality. With the arrival of impact transparency, impact and profit set the new rules of the game.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\uff08\u4f01\u696d\u306e\uff09\u30a4\u30f3\u30d1\u30af\u30c8\u900f\u660e\u6027\u306e\u65b0\u3057\u3044\u6642\u4ee3\u304c\u59cb\u307e\u308a\u3001\u30a4\u30f3\u30d1\u30af\u30c8\u306e\u6e2c\u5b9a\u30fb\u4fa1\u5024\u5275\u9020\u304c\u73fe\u5b9f\u3068\u306a\u308b\u65b0\u3057\u3044\u30eb\u30fc\u30eb\u30e1\u30a4\u30af\u3078\u306e\u52d5\u3044\u304c\u59cb\u307e\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308b\u3002<\/p>\n

It is not all negative though. Companies also create positive impacts through their products and employment, which do not show up in their bottom line.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the meantime, we each have a valuable role to play. If you lead a company, then measure and communicate your impact-weighted performance. If you are an investor, demand impact transparency from the companies in which you invest and use impact-weighted numbers to assess opportunities and risk. If you are a regulator or government official, mandate the publication of impact-weighted accounts, and use taxes and other incentives to motivate companies and investors to create positive impact. And since we are all consumers, let\u2019s buy the products and services of companies that deliver positive impact to improve our planet and society.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Impact transparency will reshape capitalism. By shifting the pursuit of profit away from negligently creating problems to purposefully creating valuable solutions for the world, it will redefine success, so that its measure is not just money, but the positive impact we make during our lives.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
